G1 Mandatory Prerequisites

Valid License: Hold a valid Gas Technician 2 (G2) certificate.

Work Experience: Complete at least 2 years (4,000 hours) of field experience as a licensed G2.

Advanced Equipment Experience: Of the 4,000 hours, you must have at least 500 hours of documented field experience working on systems with a firing rate exceeding 400,000 BTUs. This experience must be completed under the direct supervision of a G1 certificate holder, or you must complete a GGAP course with a certified training provider.
G1 is the industrial/commercial licensing for the gas fitter trade, allowing a tech to work on fired equipment over 400,000 Btuh’s. To qualify for this training the student must have a license for 4000 hours with 500 of those hours working on systems with an input greater 400,000 Btuh’s under the direct supervision of a person holding a G1 certificate.
Course length: G1 is 140 hours and only offered in the evenings at the present time.
Total cost includes the B149.3 codebook, G1 text and lab manuals, and TSSA exam.
